I was on my way home on the Orange Line tonight, and just decided to watch some of the people around me. The men were still in their work clothes and were all reading the same newspaper. The women were with their children, and they talked to one another about their kids. Their children meanwhile giggled and played games with one another. Looking at this, I thought "you know, there's nothing different about this than any other place in America."
There will always be the barber shop owner who calls me and every other girl "snow white" when  they are walking back to our apartments. And there will always be the assortment of bums who will harass me for every last bit of my income. But you know what? I'm learning more than I ever will at any other college, and I see promise in this part of the city. All those people I went to high school with that go to college on rural campuses with more beer and weed than they can ever consume, they can keep it (well, maybe not all the beer). As for me, I am content with my somewhat offbeat college experience.
It's my last night at college and in Philadelphia for a while. But I can happily say that I will be back for another year come August. As for tomorrow and heading home to Maryland, I'd have to say I am looking forward to living in place that has fresh food and toilet paper.

My new screename is BlueyedMaryland...for anyone that doesn't already know. My parents cancelled the AOL account at home and that was linked to kitkatgmb. Okay...I think I am pretty much done with Xanga...and it seemed that I ended a good time...all of freshman year of college.

Okay so its long overdue for another post. So this is what has happened during my first week while back at school/living in my apartment.

So Friday I moved in and originally we decided that since Gina had already moved into the incorrect room I would do the same, and we would just switch keys. However, with the bitching of Oxford (and the fact that this room is bigger) we had to move all my stuff back over to the correct bedroom. So that took about 15 minutes with Gina's help.  Then after she left Sam and Erica stopped by at different times. It was nice because I was the only one staying in the apartment on Friday night and it was kinda lonely-but okay nonetheless.

Then Saturday Cait moved in and we just hung out, we did a lot of errands the next two days followed by a lot of being bored. We went to Rittenhouse and that was nice because I found some stuff for my bedroom and a book that I am reading. Tuesday was really busy though because Jess came back and not only was I hanging out with her (we went to the supermarket and got crab!) And I had two interviews. One, I got the job right on the spot (wohoo!) and that was the job on campus that I really wanted. And the second one was for the ymca and now I really dont want to work there, even though I would be like a supervisor. Between jess and julie getting back, I didnt get to bed until 1 am. Normally that would have been okay but I had to wake up at 6am...why at the ungodly hour of 6am you may ask? Well I will tell you...

I WENT TO NEW YORK YESTERDAY! I hadn't been there since I was 14 so it was a good time just kinda seeing all the sites again. I went there by myself, which was a little intimidating since I took the regional rail to Trenton and then the NJ Transit to NYC, but it was only $18 that way so I was pretty happy. I met up with Dave and a few of his friends and the five of us walked from Grand Central all the way down to Battery Park. On the way we saw NYU, (which wasnt as impressive as its cracked up to be) City Hall, Times Square, Madison Square Gardens, the World Trade Center (or whatever they are doing to it now)  and the statue of liberty. Oh yeah, haha we saw Paris Hilton on Park Ave, at least thats what we are claiming, even though it was just a billboard. Overall New York is just a little too much of everything for me. I like it, its just WAY too fast paced, way too many people, buildings and noise for my liking. I have to say that I am much happier in Philly, and it is my home.

  • Excuse me, but freshman? Not to sound like a dumbass but friday will be the begging of my SOPHOMORE year. I earned that title and i plan on having it. So why is temple sending me this stupid emails? I don't know.

One thing is for sure though. This will be my last entry before returning to Temple.  It has been a great summer. I won't forget the masses of people that I hung out in Maryland, the trip with Jess and Andi to Seaside Heights on a freezing cold day and Jess got her picture with the jim morrison fan,  the barbeque in a parking lot at a Pat Benotar concert, crabfeasts in Baltimore, swimming in the Patapsco River,  random trips down to College Park where i need to "man the fuck up,"  seeing the most random group of people at Elliotts party, watching Tim and Cate freak out over a tiny bee in the car...the list goes on.

To all my crew at home...you better call me up if you are in Philadelphia, or if you want to visit Philly! I will truely miss you all...
